English as an additional language
English as an additional language (EAL)
We provide a co-ordinated approach to students whose first language is not English. Our EAL students benefit enormously from our emphasis on the core curriculum, gaining extra support until they reach expected levels in English.
We work closely with EAL students to ensure that they learn English quickly and thoroughly. The EAL team works one-to-one and with small groups of students to accomplish this. They also ensure that subject specialist staff are trained to support EAL students in their classes.
Over 40 different languages are spoken by students at the Academy. The Country of the Week section in our weekly newsletter highlights this diversity of our student population.
