ARK Plus
ARK Plus is a specialist programme focused on the needs of children who have had difficulty making the transition to secondary school and where problems of literacy or behaviour are threatening to disrupt their school life and that of their peers.
The pilot programme provided an innovative shared resource to help year 7 pupils from several schools whose behaviour might have put them at risk of exclusion later in their school career. It opened in November 2009, providing additional help with literacy, numeracy and behavioural issues for 20 pupils. The DCSF welcomed the pilot unit which reflected the recommendations of its 2008 ‘Back on Track’ White Paper.
Following the ARK Plus pilot phase a full evaluation was conducted to further define the model for in-school development.
