ARK Plus
ARK Plus is a one year programme focused on the needs of children who have had difficulty making the transition to secondary school and where problems of literacy or behaviour are threatening to disrupt their school life and that of their peers.
The pilot programme used an innovative shared resource to help pupils from several schools who demonstrated early behaviour that might put them at risk of exclusion later in their school career. It opened in November 2009, providing additional help with literacy, numeracy and behavioural issues for 20 year 7 pupils. The DCSF welcomed the pilot unit which reflected the recommendations of the DCSF’s 2008 ‘Back on Track’ White Paper.
The ARK Plus pilot phase is being evaluated until the end of 2010 to further define the model for implementation in 2011.
